Voices of Sudan: Documentarian to Present Stories from Darfur

There will be a presentation tonight at 7:00pm at the Carolina Union Auditorium by documentarian David Johnson. Johnson will be sharing photographs and stories from his time documenting a refugee camp in Darfur, Sudan. These stories are the basis of his recent book “Voices from Sudan.” He will discuss the power of media and the mainstream press’s failure to highlight some of the realities in Darfur. All of the profits from sales of the book will go toward building wells and providing medicine and food for Sudanese.

Johnson graduated from UNC in 1998 and until recently was an English teacher in Charlotte, NC. He left his position to pursue his passion in international documentary work with an emphasis on raising awareness of situations of severe persecution and oppression. In 1997 he founded his non-profit organization, Silent Images. Learn more.
